About us

We are listed with the Kennel Club which enables us to carry out all Kennel Club Good Citizen Tests (see Good Citizen page for further details).

We welcome all breeds of dogs and focus on Obedience training. Our belief is that a well trained dog is a happy dog, allowing owner and dog to enjoy life together in all situations.

Puppies can join the 8 week Puppy Course as soon as their innoculations are completed. We also welcome older dogs in need of training or socialising.

We use motivational training methods which include the use of treats and toys.

Our courses include practical advise on: play biting, toilet training, jumping up, chewing, digging, barking, nutrition, effective communication and bond building, food stealing and scrounging.

Val Seward

I started with Purley & Coulsdon Dog Training Society in 1971 with my first German Shepherd Dog. Thanks to the Society he turned into a well behaved dog who gave myself and my family much enjoyment throughout his life.

After a break I returned to the Society in 1986 with another German Shepherd Dog. I joined the committee of the Society and became an Instructor for all classes.

I have competed at Obedience shows with my dogs with some success and am also qualified to judge at Open and Championship Obedience shows.

I love to help owners with their dogs and get a great sense of satisfaction seeing those playful puppies turn into well trained, sociable adult dogs.

Denise Fry

I joined Purley and Coulsdon Dog Training Club in 1995 with my young German Shepherd and Border Collie. I have worked my dogs in Competitive Obedience for 19 years, getting to 'C' only. I also judge at Open and Championship Obedience Shows, and have my Association of GSD's Instructors Certificate.

At the moment I am working my German Shepherd bitch in A & B classes, and have just started to enter my young German Shepherd boy in Novice & A classes. I am also training my young Collie x Aussie Shepherd for competitive obedience.

My passion is the German Shepherd, but my heart and home is also shared with a Labrador(Dora-rescue), a Standard WireHaired Dachshund (Duncan), a young Collie x Aussie Shepherd (Polly), 4 GSD's(Ronnie, Freddie, Ruby and Hugo) and a cat (Tommy) and not forgetting my husband-Phil!

I love taking my classes and seeing dogs and handlers progress, with many of the group having been with me for years. We are like an extended family, where friendships are formed — both human and canine!

I joined Purley & Coulsdon Dog Training Society in 2006 as a Trainer, I also instruct at two other clubs. I have competed with my Golden Retriever and Working Sheep Dogs at Open and Champoinship Obedience shows for 25 years. Four of my dogs have graduated to work in ‘C’ class and two of them including a Golden Retriever qualified to and worked in Championship ‘C’ class.

I judge at Open and Championship shows on a regular basis and have judged in Holland. I just love training dogs.
